Earlier this month, the Getty Museum launched an exhibition of what Irving Penn describes as his "Small Trades" series. Featuring over two hundred photographs which have now been acquired by the institute, this collection presents portraits of skilled workers in their work clothes. There are pictures that cover a range of professions--from a balloon saleswoman to a zucchini street vender.
Of interest to us foodies are his photographs of chefs and restaurant workers in Paris, New York, and London, which are especially expressive and well done.
